In 1995, as a result of a bizarre immigration across the world, a young Russian family found itself in Vancouver. Awed by the city’s natural beauty the only thing the family missed was a sense of home. Without a strong Russian presence and virtually non-existent Russian culture or community, Vancouver seemed colder than winter nights in Siberia.
Rather than leaving the city to a place with an already long established Russian culture and community, the family decided to take it upon themselves and create a bit of Russia in Vancouver.
With this in mind a humble idea was born; to create a one stop shop for all Russian cultural products for not only Russian speaking Vancouverites, but also provide a glimpse of what Russia is all about to all of Vancouver.
Thus, Russian World was born.
For over eighteen years now, Russian World has been the sole property of Inna and Oleg, and has been the sole beacon for all that is Russian in Vancouver.
